New Finding
The authors compared gene expression profiles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 48 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients to those from 42 normal controls, and found approximately half of the studied patients exhibiting dysregulated expression of genes in the interferon (IFN) pathway. It appears that this IFN gene expression pattern may serve as a biomarker for more severe SLE.
