Celecoxib and indomethacin reduced the percentage of impact-induced apoptotic chondrocytes following an impact load. Following loading (as described in Figure 3) and culture in the presence of celecoxib and indomethacin for 6 days, the percentage of apoptotic cells in frozen sections (8 μm) of articular cartilage explants was measured using the TUNEL assay.
