NCF1 gene and pseudogene pattern: association with parasitic infection and autoimmunity Bernhard Greve, Peter Hoffmann, Reinhard Vonthein, Jürgen Kun, Bertrand Lell, Marcin P Mycko, Krysztof W Selmaj, Klaus Berger, Robert Weissert, Peter G Kremsner Malaria Journal 2008, 7:251 (11 December 2008) The authors have investigated the ratio of two neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 (NCF1) pseudogenes in patients with malaria and also in patients with multiple sclerosis. NCF1 is involved in the formation of oxygen intermediates implicated both in protection/pathogenesis of malaria as well as being a harmful factor in murine models of MS.
