Alkaline phosphatase activity within the subacromial bursa varies from patient to
patient. Some activity is located within the lining and underlying 'lobules' (a) and (b), in addition to within the connective tissue of the bursa (c) or the border between bursa and tendon tissue (d). In all cases, treatment of the sections with 0.5 mM levamisole eradicated the enzyme
reaction, leaving behind only staining in granules within individual cells that appeared
to be leukocytes (not shown).
