Cadherin-11 mediates cell condensation. Cadherin-11-transfected L-cells or vector control L-cells were seeded in equal numbers. After 4 days in culture, cadherin-11-expressing L-cells formed extensive contacts along their surfaces and condensed at higher cell density to form a continuous sheet of cells. In contrast, vector control L-cells were loosely organized and did not form a tissue-like structure.
