Nicotine decreases production of IL-6 by spleen cells in vitro. Levels of IL-6 in supernatants of naive spleen cells from NMRI mice after incubation
for 24 hours with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (1 μg/ml) in the presence or absence of
nicotine (10 μg/ml) was measured by bioassay. Nicotine was added to cultures prior
to LPS stimulation. Data are representative from three independent experiments (n
= 3). Data are presented as dot plots showing median and interquartile range. Mann-Whitney
U test was used for statistical analysis. Horizontal lines indicates medians.
