Renal expression and serum levels of high mobility group box 1 protein in lupus nephritis Agneta Zickert, Karin Palmblad, Birgitta Sundelin, Sangeeta Chavan, Kevin J Tracey, Annette Bruchfeld, Iva Gunnarsson Arthritis Research & Therapy 2012, 14:R36 (20 February 2012) Serum levels of high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) are significantly increased in patients with lupus nephritis and remain raised after the initiation of immunosuppressive therapy, possibly indicating persistent inflammatory activity.
